Drawing On The Masters

Kollwitz Self Wk4

Candido Portinari - tone

Gian Lorenzo Bernini Roberto Bellarmino

Anchor 1

This class examined three masters of charcoal: Kathe Kollwitz, Candido Portinari, and Theordore Gericault. I myself learned a lot about direct, deliberate mark making. After studying the three drawings I turned to a master of sculpture, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and did a charcoal study of his bust of Cardinal Roberto Ballarmino.
